Outdoor Activities
Walking: Stonehill is a walker’s paradise. There are seven miles of great walking track around our land or take a hike across the hill to the village of Wanlockhead. There is easy walking around the local reservoirs and for more experienced walkers there is access nearby to the Southern Upland Way.
Cycling: The National Cycle Network (74) can be accessed at Abington, or try the fantastic mountain biking trails at Glentress and Innerleithen
Fishing: Just take your rod down to the bank of the Duneaton Water in front of the cottage, or get a day permit to fish on the famous Clyde River at Abington or the picturesque River Nith at Sanquhar.
Golfing: There are many local, reasonably priced golf courses, where non members are welcome.
Birdwatching: Throughout the year we are visited by lapwing, curlew, oyster catcher, red shank, snipe, buzzard, hen harrier and grouse. A family of herons usually nest by the Duneaton Water and you might even spot long-eared owls in the woods.
