Around and About
Stonehill Cottage is situated on our organic farm. The land is within an Environmentally Sensitive Area and sustains a wealth of interesting birds and wildlfe habitats.
We are just a few miles from the small and historic village of Crawfordjohn, referenced in historical documents as early as 1147. Why not visit the church, now a museum, and find out more about our local history or, pop in to our local pub and enjoy a quiet drink and a meal.
The nearest towns are Biggar (18 miles) famous for it’s New Year bonfire or Lanark (20 miles), well known for it’s Lanimer Day traditions and William Wallace connections. Both towns have a wide selection of independent shops, pubs and restaurants.
There is plenty to keep the family busy, try the Annie Macleod Experience at New Lanark, gold panning at Wanlockhead or discover Drumlanrig Castle. For more information about these and other activities and attractions, see our links page.
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Dumfries, and the Ayrshire coast are around an hours drive and all offer something different for a great day out.
